Principal repayment portion
The part of the monthly annuity that goes toward repaying the principal. The other part is interest. At the start of the mortgage, the principal share is small and the interest share is large; over time the ratio reverses. After half the term, principal usually forms most of the annuity. An extraordinary payment goes entirely toward principal.
