Cooperative apartment (družstevní byt)
An apartment you don't own directly — you're a member of a cooperative that owns the entire building, and you have the right to use a specific unit. The bank cannot place a direct lien on a cooperative apartment, so a regular mortgage isn't available. Instead, a cooperative-share loan (higher rate, shorter term) or a loan after conversion to private ownership is used.
